What drives people moving to the cloud?
Freshly published business insights from our partner NETRONIC Software. NAVAX has been a certified Visual Advanced Production Scheduler (VAPS) partner of NETRONIC Software since October 2020, which has opened up new possibilities for our customers with the visualisation of production processes.
The NETRONIC Report from November 2020 to the end of January 2021 sheds light on the increasingly important topic of cloud upgrades. 318 responses were received from 58 countries and 5 continents, making it an extremely representative sample.
Just a trend or the future?
The networking of software systems in companies is clearly the top priority. Metaphorically speaking, this is the lifeblood of organisations. The cloud, with its constantly growing networking options such as web services, confirms this future path. The topic of IoT "Internet of Things" is also becoming increasingly important in connection with the cloud and manufacturing .
Goodbye to data silos!
In order to offer a company room to grow, it is essential to continuously consider the life cycle of the company and to be adaptable. According to the survey, the need for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is also unmistakable in that the data silos that have been created so far have only brought imbalance into the company.
Clear company data
Furthermore, a Business Central implementation is characterised as a future-proof investment due to the high level of transparency on the one hand and the possibility that information is no longer scattered and stored clearly. All the pieces of data are merged centrally in the system to ensure a holistic overview.
Data variety is everything
Are you also wondering what the key to accurate data might be? This is built on the basis of accurate data accuracy! Below you can read insights from the NETRONIC report on the main reasons for choosing an ERP system and deciding to implement NAV/BC:
What is the customers' main reason for implementing NAV/BC?
The results show that 69% of all partners surveyed stated that their customers had worked with a different ERP system before switching to Dynamics NAV or Dynamics NAV 365 Business Central.
Dynamics NAV 365 Business Central. This is clear evidence that Dynamics NAV is not the entry-level ERP system for many customers. The 59% break down as follows:
51% of all partners say that their customers chose Dynamics NAV (or Business Central) because their previous system was no longer supported.
13% of partners say that their customers previously worked with QuickBooks (or similar) and that this system proved to be too lightweight.
6% of partners mention that their NAV customers went the other way round: They had SAP or Dynamics AX (or similar) in use. This system turned out to be too extensive for them.
31% of all respondents stated that their customers had previously used Microsoft Excel for their company, but this turned out to be no longer scalable. For them, Dynamics NAV and Dynamics 365 Business Central are actually the entry-level ERP systems.

From a manufacturing perspective: What were the main reasons for implementing an ERP system?
It is very clear from this question that the general reasons for deciding in favour of an ERP system clearly predominate. This means that there does not appear to be an industry-specific trigger for investing in an ERP system.
Overall, the need for more cohesion in business and finance was the most important reason (27% of respondents) why customers invested in an ERP system from a production perspective. This coincides with one of the most common reasons why many companies use ERP systems.
The second most important reason was the need for greater transparency of their business with 25% of responses, which is somewhat related to the third reason (22%), namely the need to improve the efficiency of administrative and core production processes.
This is followed by the reasons that represent the usual challenges of running a business that has "grown too fast", such as the problems of dealing with growing orders (11%), managing capacity (8%) and meeting customer delivery times (7%).
